Specializing in Psychiatric Consultation, Medication Management, and Psychotherapy
Psychiatric Consultation
The first several visits with a physician at Adelpha are considered consultation visits as the initial phase of developing a thorough treatment plan. These visits are an opportunity for our physicians to gather information and formulate an impression of each individual's mental health status and what treatments we believe would be most helpful. During the consultation phase, our physicians may request to communicate with prior and current mental health providers or other healthcare providers, such as your primary care physician. Communication with family members or significant others is sometimes also helpful. At the end of the consultation phase, we will provide our impressions and work in cooperation with each individual to determine if receiving ongoing care with our practice would be helpful and appropriate. We also provide second opinions, reproductive psychiatric consultations, and preoperative clearance prior to surgery.
Medication Management
Medications can be tremendously helpful in treating a variety of mental health conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety, panic, addiction problems, ADHD, eating disorders, and schizophrenia. Our physicians possess a number of unique clinical skills rarely found within the psychiatric community when it comes to the prescribing of mental health medications. These include outpatient Suboxone treatment for opiate dependence, clozapine medication management for schizophrenia, management of medications during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and use of MAO inhibitors for treatment of depression.
Individual Psychotherapy
Our physicians are trained in a variety of specialized psychotherapeutic modalities including Interpersonal Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, Habit Reversal Training, and Supportive Therapy. Many of our patients prefer to consolidate their care and see a single provider for both medication management and individual psychotherapy services, which is possible at Adelpha. We are also happy to coordinate care if someone has an already existing positive established therapeutic alliance with another therapist.
Couples Therapy
In addition to individual psychotherapy services, our physicians also offer couples and family therapy. Our physicians are interested in treating the entire family unit holistically and can provide both individual and family therapy services to various family members.
Stress and Grief
In addition to treating the mental health conditions listed above, our physicians are trained to treat individuals experiencing acute stressors, grief and bereavement issues related to significant losses. Interpersonal Therapy is a therapeutic modality particularly helpful for this process.
Child/Adolescent
Several of our physicians have been trained in both adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. With this additional training, they are specialized in seeing young children, adolescents, and transitional aged youth. The demand for child and adolescent psychiatrists far outstrips the supply. Only 20% of emotionally disturbed children and adolescents receive any mental health treatment, a tiny percentage of which is performed by child and adolescent psychiatrists. Furthermore, the U.S. Bureau of Health Professions projected that the demand for child and adolescent psychiatry services would increase by 100% between 1995 and 2020. We are extremely fortunate to be able to offer these services in our practice. Please call to inquire regarding current provider availability.
